Knowledge Organisers
At Woodmansterne we provide an overview of the curriculum through Knowledge Organisers - clear, accessible documents that outline the essential facts, vocabulary, and key concepts pupils need to know for each subject or topic.
Knowledge Organisers are valuable tools for both pupils and parents. Pupils can use them to review and reinforce their learning, helping them to retain important information and prepare for assessments. Parents can use them to support learning at home, understand what their child is studying, and engage in meaningful conversations about schoolwork.
For specific information about GCSE exam boards and syllabi please refer to our option booklet here:
By using Knowledge Organisers regularly, pupils build strong foundations for deeper understanding and long-term success.

Home Learning Timetables
What is the purpose of Home Learning in the Secondary phase?
To provide an opportunity for pupils to:
- develop their independent learning skills;
- consolidate learning;
- practice skills and revise knowledge;
- research and explore new topics.
How can I support my child?
- support with routines to allow the time and space for home learning;
- regularly check their planner for details of home learning set;
- ask your child to show you their completed work;
- let the school know if there are any problems regarding home learning by writing a note in your child’s planner or contacting the teacher via the school office.
What support is available in school?
The School Library is open for independent study at break and lunchtimes. Study club runs after school until 4.15pm every day of the week and provides the opportunity for pupils to complete their home learning in school with support/advice from staff supervising the club and access school resources for example texts, computers and specialist equipment.
How long should it take?
In KS3 we expect pupils to be spending roughly an hour each evening on their home learning, this expectation increases to roughly two hours per evening in KS4. In addition to set home learning, we ensure all pupils have a reading book and expect them to read for at least 20mins each day.
When is it set?
In the secondary phase pupils will have their home learning set according to a weekly timetable which is in their planners. The timetable indicates which subjects should be completed on which evening
